Week 47 - XRD Expo

EXPO Here we presented all our projects. We had the missfortune to not be able to install and test the projects but on the day of the expo the teacher helped us overcome this problem, though the bowling game had an anoying graphical glitch pixelating everithing. Week 46 - VR Lab hours

 Development We decided again to use VRTK  as we were a bit accustomed to it. And we found a grea tutorial for point defence game . We downloaded  a lot of assets from the Unity store, like:  - Skeleton  as enemy, it also had animations - Low Poly Guns - Traffic props , city props for enviroment - Low Poly Village We managed to make the animation working, base logic for enemy movement. Shooting and enemy death mechanics are basic. When player presses the button to shoot the trigger also animates.  Game - Player spawns in the middle of the map - Player has 2 guns, a pistol and a rifle - Player can shoot from both guns at the same time - Enemies continously spawn - Enemies die from one shot Features not implemented These are features that we wanted but did not manage to finish: - Player health - Enemy damage to player - End screen with score and a restart button - Gun sounds - Muzzle flashes - Change rifle fire rate - Bullets and a timer for reloading

Week 45 - VR Lab hours

 Development During the second week we were prototyping but we wee encountering a lot of bugs or stone walls, where lack of knowledge in Unity, and also lack of tutorials on our specific theme made the development a bit tough. Also the tutorials that we based our  development had some times 3 years difference and the setup for the project were different. During the last days of week we decided to change the project and take something easier. We decided to make a point shooter. Were the player will spawn in the middles of the map with some gund deffending from hordes of enemies.

Week 44 - VR Lab hours

Idea Our idea was to develop a VR up. We were exited to make a game based on magic powers. The player chooses his power uses it and then there is a cooldown for it. In meantime the player can choose a different power. Base idea was the powers as in Avatar the legend of Aang. And there was already a game close to it: Earth Bending . So we started prototyping, last VR project we used VRTK , we liked it but we decided not to constaint ourselfs only to it.

Week 41 - VR Lab hours

 Idea We discussed many ideas, we wanted a shooting game but decided on bowling, as it will be a better quality product than a shooting game. There were no bowling game assets on Unity Store that were acceptable to us so we went to CGtrader  and downloaded one. Implementation We saw a lot of tutorials on building a bowling game in VR. But we liked the tools the VRTK  offers. And based out game on this tutorial . Game - The lane is 15 m - The lane was rotated to 1 degree towards the Pins so it will give velocity to the ball and make the game friendlier to new players - Usually, in bowling, the ball falls on the sides, but in our case, we decided to place borders to make it easier for the players who are not accustomed to the VR (including us :)) - When a pin falls it will disappear in 1.5 seconds - The ball will automatically reset if it passes the pins - There is a button to reset the pins - There is a button to reset the ball - You can teleport everywhere Features not im...

Week 40 - VR Lab hours

Setting up We had some problems setting up the VR project because some settings were mutually exclusive and we did not know about that. We had no problems starting the VR headset with the project and helped another team who had some issues with that. We did not start any projects this week. We discussed ideas but postponed the idea selection. We decided to watch more tutorials to deepen our knowledge and understanding of what we are capable of.  Our reactions during this time:

AR Tower Defence Game At the next meeting, our team decided to make a tower defense game.  We discussed possible implementations. It was decided to use 3D models from another project to ease the burden of the short time we had to develop it. Unity store had an excellent project to give us access to 3D models we needed:  Tower Defense Template . Game Rules Castle is being attacked by enemy buggies that spawn from their spawn points (where the QR code is) and losses health if they get to it after they disappear. The towers will be positioned where their QR code is and will shoot the nearest enemy to them to defend the castle. The player can move the QR codes to change the situation on the fly. Development We started by creating the markers. This week we were presented with Vuforia, a marker-based engine that helps develop AR. We were tasked with developing an app using Vuforia. Our team discussed the possible project and agreed to meet next time with even more proposals.
